siggi eggertson + lawrence cepstral: supernova.

Siggi Eggertson kicks some serious ass.

This is pretty high up on the trip-out scale. Sort of like listening to an Autobot/God hybird fill you in on all the celestial happenings you’ve missed out on… at a trance rave. Like I said… trippy.

Created by Siggi Eggertson for Lawrence Cepstral’s “Supernova.”

ambar + ignacio masllorens: tirante.

I have no idea what this song is about, but I love the video. Directed by Ignacio Masllorens for Argentinian electro-duo Ambar’s “Tirante.”

I don’t know anything more than that because everything I can find is in Spanish. But this video kills it, and that’s all I really need…

ranger 3 + eric power: sense of direction.

The term “claymation” make my skin crawl. In light of that, let’s say that stop motion animation created with lovingly sculpted clay characters kicks some serious ass. Especially if it’s as good as Eric Power’s vid for Ranger 3’s “Sense of Direction.”

On a side note, I think the colour of perfectly sun-dabbled lucious green grass might be my favourite colour in the world. But I’m also fickle, so ask me again tomorrow…

tomas mankovsky: little big love.

Tomas Mankovsky made a major splash on the webs (on almost every blog like mine, including mine) with his crazy stop-mo vid “Sorry I’m Late.” That vid was kick ass and deserved every accolade it got.

Digging around I came across another Mankovsky short, and I think this one is even more stellar. “Little Big Love” just strolled away with a piece of my heart, and once you watch it too you’ll know exactly why.

gabo gesualdi + anne laplantine: you and me.

A lovely animated vid by Gabo Gesualdi for Anne Laplantine’s “You And Me.”

we love our work: revenge + color correcting.

I first started following We Love Our Work (the artistic collaboration of Lernert Engelberts and Sander Plug) after “CDEFGABC”, their colourful, crystal-rubbing rendition of “No Limits” for MTV Europe.

Their latest, “Revenge”, shows a harrowing day in the life of an egg.

Continuing on the whole colour-obsession tip, their 2008 short “Color Correcting” compiles into a 4-minute short the 9 hours they spent separating a pile of multi-coloured Discodip ice cream sprinkles into it’s individual colours. They scary part is that after 9 hours the original pile basically looks exactly the same…

I’m sure there are arguments as to why I shouldn’t find this so fascinating, but I don’t give a shit. I’m fascinated.

the wooden sky.

This is my shit. I hate trying to apply genres to an artist when they clearly can’t be contained within one, so sometimes comparing their sound to others can be a bit more apt (though I imaging artists really fucking hate that…). Toronto’s The Wooden Sky reminds me a bit of Elliott Brood, a bit of Balmorhea, a bit of Great Lake Swimmers. But more than that it opens up those places in my mind and body where I can transcend the idea of “sitting here listening to music” and really feel something.

So, I’m listening to The Wooden Sky and I smell birch smoke. My hands feel dusty. My feet ache and I’ve been walking too long. I see the pages turning in a very old book. I feel water on my skin, being dried by sunlight, after crossing a river the colour of leaves.

The Wooden Sky is touring this summer before their latest, “If I Don’t Come Home You’ll Know I’m Gone” drops August 25th. I can’t wait to check them out live. Plus, anyone who can sound this good playing acoustically in a living room is begging to be heard up close and personal…

looking thru the b-sides released.

Last September I posted the killer trailer for the incredible looking short “Looking Thru The B-Sides”, directed by Saimon Chow and the folks at Golden Lucky. I had kinda forgotten about it, and then now and then I’d come across something from Chow or Golden Lucky and wonder when it was coming out. Good things, like they say, come to those who wait…

This week the full Fuel TV 8-minute short was released. And it’s fucking epic. Stop reading and watch this little stop-motion technotronic skateboard gem right now. I want to live inside Chow’s brain.

Update: I just got an email from Saimon that they’ve had a problem with the YouTube vid and had to take it down. You can watch it on Golden Lucky’s site by clicking here.

syfy channel + brett foraker: house of imagination.

We’ve got helium-filled wild animals, a remote controlled dinosaur, origami unicorns, and Lou Diamond Phillips. This house party is the shit.

The Sci Fi Channel has rebranded into the SyFy Channel. Tying in with their new tag, “Imagine Greater”, they’ve kicked off the rebrand with an absolutely kick ass new trailer and accompanying website, “House of Imagination.”

Directed by 4Creative’s Brett Foraker and with post from Moving Picture Company.

sleep whale: little brite.

I’ve been following Western Vinyl’s acts for a little while now. It started with Balmorhea, and then I found Here We Go Magic, and then Dirty Projectors, and now my latest obsession from their seemingly endless roster of awesomeness is Sleep Whale.

I know don’t know what’s in the water at Western Vinyl, but I’m not complaining.

Sleep Whale’s first EP, “Little Brite”, is out now and this memory-flash nostalgia-imbued vid came with its Japanese release. Radness.
